Where To Get A Saddle In Minecraft

Minecraft Small Village

As you explore Minecraft, you may occasionally come across a horse! Of course, your first instinct is probably to tame and ride it, but you'll need a Saddle first.

Unfortunately, there's no way to obtain a Saddle via crafting. You'll need to find it in the world somewhere! There are four options you can try, which we detail here for your convenience.

Chests

There are lots of chests across the world that have a chance of containing a Saddle. They spawn in structures that load into your world.

The chances of a saddle spawning in these chests are…

Fishing

There's a small chance (0.8%) that you'll catch a saddle with a fishing rod. 0.8% is a base chance, so it doesn't take enchantments into consideration.

Trading

When you encounter villagers, you'll be able to trade with some of them for items. The more you trade with Villagers, the higher level they become. When a Leatherworker Villager becomes fifth level ("Master") it can trade with you for a saddle! If you're playing on the Java Edition, the trade that a Master Leatherworker offers will always be a saddle. If you're playing the Bedrock Edition, a Master Leatherworker will offer a saddle up for trade 50% of the time.

Loot From Killing Mods

Ravagers are a type of mob that spawn during raids against Villages. Those Ravagers always spawn with a saddle and are guaranteed to drop that saddle when they die.

The other mob that you can hunt is a Zombified Piglin riding a Strider, since they spawn with a Saddle. When they die, they have an 8.5% chance of dropping their Saddle (which can be increased by 1% per level you have in "Looting").
