Xbox Game Pass is Losing Red Dead Online and Four Other Games Soon

Xbox Game Pass gets new games on a regular basis, with Microsoft ensuring that there's always well over 100 titles for subscribers to choose from. However, Xbox Game Pass loses titles all the time as well, with a handful of games typically removed from the service a couple of times per month. Xbox Game Pass is soon set to lose five games, with four of them being removed after August 31 and the other likely to be dropped sometime in September.

After August 31, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will no longer have access to Blair Witch, Double Kick Heroes, NBA 2K21, or Stranger Things 3: The Game. Blair Witch was a timed-Xbox console exclusive that has since made its way to other platforms, so it's not surprising to see that it's finally leaving the service, two years after it was first added. Stranger Things 3: The Game, meanwhile, is set to be part of Netflix's gaming platform, so it's also an unexpected departure for Game Pass.

The fifth game that's leaving Xbox Game Pass was confirmed just recently by the Game Pass app, and it's none other than Red Dead Online. Red Dead Online is the online multiplayer component for Red Dead Redemption 2, letting players explore the game's massive open world with friends, completing missions and participating in various activities. A specific date for Red Dead Online's removal from Xbox Game Pass has not been announced at the time of this writing.

When it comes to removing games from Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft typically removes titles at the end and middle of each month. This means that it's possible that Red Dead Online won't be removed from Xbox Game Pass until September 15 or 16, but it's also possible that the game will be dropped earlier than that as well. After all, Microsoft has broken from its Game Pass patterns with Rockstar Games titles in the past, removing Grand Theft Auto 5 from Xbox Game Pass on August 8 instead of waiting until August 15 or 16 like it normally would.

While there are five games that are leaving Xbox Game Pass in the near future, though, there are plenty of other titles coming to the service in September as well. Most of them haven't been announced just yet, but a couple of the higher profile games coming to Xbox Game Pass in September include stealth action game Aragami 2 as well as the innovative turn-based first-person shooter Lemnis Gate.
