Xbox One Apparently Able to Play Xbox Series X|S Games Via xCloud

What Did I Buy My Series X For?!

E3 had something for pretty much everyone, unless you were looking for some PlayStation exclusives. With the exception of PlayStation, a ton of major publishers and studios got to show off some bunch of big ticket items. Not every game, reveal, or announcement could be a Halo Infinite or a Breath of the Wild 2 though. Some things get overlooked. Xbox put together a list of everything that came out of E3 on their end, which included a short announcement about xCloud.

Microsoft’s game streaming service is apparently getting expanded in a pretty interesting way. As we get further into the Xbox Series X|S lifecycle, we would of course expect to see the Xbox One’s usage begin to fade. On the contrary; it appears that Microsoft is planning to use xCloud to steam Xbox Series X|S games to Xbox One, which is wild. The statement regarding this reads, “For the millions of people who play on Xbox One consoles today, we are looking forward to sharing more about how we will bring many of these next-gen games, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator, to your console through Xbox Cloud Gaming, just like we do with mobile devices, tablets, and browsers.”

Expect a major asterisk with this though. Will it apply to all Xbox One models or just the Xbox One X? Will this make Smart Delivery obsolete? Will it include all Series X|S titles or just exclusives? Hopefully, we will get more specific answers soon. I just imagine when I played Marvel’s Avengers on my Xbox One and then booting it up on my Series X when I got it. It was a major performance boost, but I have a hard time imagining that kind of improvement and quality coming from the last generation. We’ll wait and see though.

What do you think this means for Xbox Series X|S games on Xbox One? Let us know in the comments below.
