PlayStation 5 Download Queue Bug Preventing Game Downloads Requires Factory Reset

PlayStation 5

PlayStation 5 players are suffering from a bug that prevents the download of some games, with the only solution being a factory reset.

As reported by IGN and VGC (via corroboration with their readership), games and apps get stuck in a Queued for Download state or download error message. When checking the downloads menu however, nothing is there, leaving it unable to be played or accessed.

The major problem is that the only way to fix the issue is a full factory reset of the console, wiping all save data users may have built up thus far, and requiring games to be re-downloaded. While your PlayStation 5 library will show you own the game or application, the PlayStation Store will prompt you to buy it. Three of IGN’s own staff suffered the bug.

IGN reports a large number of these reports were centered around Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War; with two IGN staff members corroborating. Activision recommended factory resetting to those asking about the issue, which does resolve the problem.

Other games reportedly suffering the bug include Demon’s Souls (2020), Godfall, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Spider-Man: Remastered, and the Disney+ app.

This isn’t the first data-based issue the PlayStation 5 has had. PlayStation 5 was discovered to have 646.7GB of usable storage out of the box, combined with not being able to store or play PlayStation 5 games from an external drive. Sony Interactive Entertainment have stated an update allowing access to external drives will address these issues.

The PlayStation 5 is available in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. For the rest of the world, it will launch November 19th. The PlayStation 5 will cost $499.99 USD, while the Digital Edition will cost $399.99 USD.
