Cyberpunk 2077 Players on PS4 Advised to “Wait” on Refunds – Report

The refund drama around Cyberpunk 2077 continues to unfold. After the game’s controversial launch on previous-gen platforms, CD Projekt RED issued a statement telling players that they could apply for refunds. However, in a subsequent conference call with investors, it then stated that refund policies depended on Sony and Microsoft. “These policies are in place and have always been in place; they’re not offered specifically for us.”

Waypoint’s Patrick Klepek has revealed that after people mailed the developer’s official “Help” address, the response received was that, “If you own a digital copy on PlayStation, please wait for us to get back to you.” But things get even more interesting – according to an apparent internal memo at GameStop, employees are being told to refuse refunds on the game. “The memo also claims that CD Projekt may directly issue refunds to customers,” says Klepek.

This could also be the reason that the company is asking fans to wait with regards to PlayStation refunds. As it stands, Klepek noted that GameStop wasn’t doing anything unique and that “all retailers are going to deny Cyberpunk 2077 refunds.” While the developer declined to comment on the memo, there’s no denying that the whole thing has turned into one big mess.

We’ll have to wait and see how things pan out especially with the December 21st deadline for refunds coming up. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia. Check out our console review here and PC review here.

If you are trying to request a refund of Cyberpunk 2077, especially after the studio said it would “help,” please let me know what your experience has been like. DMs are open.

People are starting to get this response back from CD Projekt RED, after emailing their “help” address for refunds. The language is interesting: it doesn’t tell you to request a refund from Sony anymore. You’re supposed to wait. pic.twitter.com/Hb77SQ5teD

An internal GameStop memo is telling employees to deny Cyberpunk 2077 refunds and point customers towards CD Projekt RED. The memo also claims that CD Projekt may directly issue refunds to customers. My story: https://t.co/0NaWa1JCnT

When asked about the details of this memo, CD Projekt RED only pointed me towards its original statement and declined to further comment.

To be clear: GameStop is not doing anything unique. All retailers are going to deny Cyberpunk 2077 refunds. What's interesting is how they're suggesting CD Projekt RED may tackle the matter themselves.

The existence of direct refunds from CD Projekt RED would go a long way towards explaining why the company is no longer instructing customers to ask Sony for a refund and to "wait" for more information.
