Dr. Mario World Shutting Down in November

Fans of the mobile game Dr. Mario World might be disappointed to learn that the game is officially being put out to pasture. Come November 1, 2021, the service will be shut down for good.

End of service notice: The Dr. Mario World game’s service will end on Oct. 31, 2021. Thank you very much to the players who have supported the game. For details, please check this link: https://t.co/fC5qnRnLFD

Note, there is a discrepancy between the end of service date listed in the tweet announcement versus the official Dr. Mario World website. If we get clarification we’ll be sure to update this story. Regardless, that’s a difference of about a day, so expect by the end of October or start of November for the game to be gone. Accessing the game after the end of service date will yield an end-of-service notification displayed on the screen. In an interesting move, Nintendo is saying that fans will be able to access a special webpage called Dr. Mario World Memories where players “will be able to look back at [their] player history.” The webpage will be available at a later date.

Note that as of today, July 28, 2021, diamonds (the in-game currency) will no longer be available for purchase. Thus is the peril of investing in a games as service type of experience; eventually it all adds up to nothing. Was anyone an avid player of Dr. Mario World? Tell us in the comments!
