Koei Tecmo is Bringing Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX to Switch This Year

The Pokémon series inspired a number of different spin-offs over the years. Many of them have come close to the quality of the beloved series, and are quite treasured in their own right by energetic fanbases. Case in point: Monster Rancher. Originally released in 1997 on PlayStation, the first Monster Rancher made waves with its unique method of generating monsters via plopping music CDs into the console. The game would then “read” the CDs and create monsters based on the data found. It was a cool gimmick, joined with memorable monsters and fun gameplay.

Now, in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the series, Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, a compilation of the first two games, will be coming to Nintendo Switch on December 9. Check it out:

Here’s what developer Koei Tecmo has to say about the game:

Welcome to the magical world of Monster Rancher! The beloved series makes its triumphant return with Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, bringing together the wildly popular simulation games – Monster Rancher and Monster Rancher 2 – all in one amazing collection. Raise your own monsters and train them to compete against other eccentric creatures in combat and tournaments. With hundreds of different monster types, each with their own skills and abilities, every Rancher will be able to raise and train a monster that’s a perfect fit for their personality and play style. Returning fans and newcomers alike can enjoy the timeless monster training and battling experience in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX!

We actually first heard about the original Monster Rancher coming to Switch in 2019, but in Japan. It’s great to see the game and its sequel now coming to the West. Will you be testing your Rancher skills come December? Spout off in the comments!
