The failure of Redfall hasn’t put Arkane off vampires, as rumours of them working on a game based on Marvel’s Daywalker are proven true.

All the rumours agreed that Arkane Studios would announce a new project at The Game Awards, but there was uncertainty as to whether it was Dishonored 3 or something based on Blade the Vampire-Slayer.

It’s not clear whether the rumours of Dishnoured 3 are completely baseless but Blade is definitely the next game from Arkane Lyon, the same team behind Deathloop and the rest of the Dishonored series. Arkane Austin is a completely separate studio in Texas, who made Prey and Redfall, which explains why Arkane as a whole aren’t sick of fangs and garlic just yet.

Nothing was shown of the game beyond a brief pre-rendered trailer, but the premise is that Paris has been overtaken by a ‘supernatural emergency’ and walled off from the rest of the country, with Blade turning up to sort things out.

The game was described as a ‘third person action adventure’ but beyond that there was no further information and while earlier rumours suggested Mahershala Ali, who plays the character in the MCU, might be voicing the character there was no mention of that.

That implies that it will be following the same path as the Spider-Man and Guardians Of The Galaxy games, in that this will be a separate take on the character, with no connection to the movies and probably some key differences when compared with the comics.

As big as Spider-Man 2 has been this year though, most other Marvel games have proven costly flops in recent years, including Avengers, Guardians Of The Galaxy, and Midnight Suns – with the latter two deserving to do much better.

A Marvel rep appeared on stage to help announce the game, talking about how big a fan Marvel is of Arkane – which is exactly what they said about Firaxis, who only barely made it out alive after the failure of Midnight Suns.

Although it wasn’t specifically stated, the game is presumably an Xbox and PC exclusive, since Arkane is owned by Bethesda and Bethesda are, of course, owned by Microsoft.
