Microsoft is ending production of two of its current-gen versions of the Xbox One: the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition and the beefed-up Xbox One X. For the time being, the standard Xbox One S will continue to be sold.
“As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition,” a Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge in a statement. “Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally.”
The spokesperson added that the now-discontinued products should still be available at retailers until their stock is exhausted. However, given that there have been nationwide shortages on consoles, anyone looking for one might have to settle for a used or refurbished Xbox One X on eBay.
Or, of course, you can just wait a few months until Series X comes out since the system supports backward compatibility with Xbox One. But that’s just me!
My Take
This marks the end of the line for Microsoft’s disc-less Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, which just launched last year. We barely knew thee. It’s another sign that the next generation of consoles is rapidly approaching.
