New Nintendo Trademarks Suggest Classic Zelda Titles May Be Headed to Switch

So far in 2021 we’ve received a frustratingly small amount of information on upcoming first-party Nintendo titles slated for the rest of the year, with the exception of the announcement of New Pokémon Snap. Nintendo has also been curiously silent on the impending 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, which has fans worried that Nintendo won’t be dedicating the same level of fanfare, merchandise, and related releases to the series that the Mario 35 celebration got (and continues to get).

However, a recent reveal via IP Australia — a branch of the Australian government that deals with trademarks — might shed some light on at least one Zelda-related project Nintendo has planned. Nintendo has filed new trademarks for Phantom Hourglass, Ocarina of Time, Skyward Sword, and Wind Waker, leading to speculation that the company could be planning to release all four games in a collection à la Super Mario 3D All-Stars.

It’s worth noting that not only are these new trademarks separate from existing trademarks for these Zelda titles, but they were all filed at the same time and in the same year as the series’ milestone anniversary, fueling the belief that a four-game collection is on the way sometime soon. Nintendo of course isn’t talking, so for now we’ll just have to wait and see whether anything comes of these trademarks.
