According to the latest NPD data, Nintendo Switch is now the second-best selling Nintendo Platform in the US in “tracked history,” outselling total lifetime dollar sales of Nintendo DS. The Switch is now second only to the total lifetime dollar sales of Nintendo Wii.
Feb 2021 US NPD THREAD – February 2021 consumer spending across video game hardware, content and accessories reached a February record $4.6B, 35 percent higher when compared to a year ago. Year-to-date spending totaled $9.3B, 39 percent higher than the same period in 2020. pic.twitter.com/uLO9dphLmE

The Switch had a strong February, coming out on top as the best-selling hardware of the month in terms of both units and dollars. But unit and dollar figures were also the highest they’ve been in February since the Nintendo Wii’s in February 2009. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury was also the best-selling game of the month.
Will the Switch outpace lifetime Wii sales to become the best-selling Nintendo system in the US of all time? It remains to be seen, but with rumors of a Switch Pro swirling and major first-party titles in the horizon like Breath of the Wild 2, it’s possible we may see the Switch finally take the number-one spot held by the Wii for so long.
