Today, Swedish game developer and publisher Starbreeze released its year-end report for 2022 while looking forward to 2023, where the release of PAYDAY 3 will be the highest priority. Tobias Sjögren, CEO of Starbreeze, stated:

On January 1st this year, we released the teaser trailer and logo for the next big step on our journey – this year’s launch of PAYDAY 3. The fact that the game is eagerly awaited is reflected not only in the reaction to the teaser but also in that the game has quickly climbed Steam’s global wish list of the most wished games.

We have an intense, inspiring and fun year ahead of us, with the launch of PAYDAY 3 as our highest priority. At the same time, we will continue to develop our own IP, the next major game development project will come into place, and we will continue to build Starbreeze in accordance with our strategy. We see that a combination of game development projects from our proprietary and licensed IPs, our publishing activities and the potential that exists to take the PAYDAY brand beyond gaming will ensure a long-term and differentiated revenue model and take Starbreeze to the next level.

The company also grew slightly in the last quarter (from 156 to 165 employees) to accommodate the game’s launch and the preparation of the next unannounced game project.

In a separate press release, Starbreeze also unveiled a partnership with production company Stockholm Syndrome to look into adapting the PAYDAY IP for live action film and TV formats.

Tobias Sjögren, CEO of Starbreeze, said in a statement:

We are very pleased to partner with Stockholm Syndrome with the mutual ambition to bring our franchise to new heights and an even broader audience. It is a milestone on our journey to create IP that expands beyond the realm of games, and Stockholm Syndrome is a great partner and meshes perfectly with our mission to build an even broader and more engaged community.

Peter Settman, Founder of Stockholm Syndrome, added:

We’ve had the opportunity to work with a lot of different IPs over the years, and PAYDAY has always been on our radar. It has a cinematic quality and narrative that lends itself to a fantastic live-action adaptation.

PAYDAY joins a large number of game IPs that have been recently adapted or will soon be adapted for live action film/TV formats, such as Resident Evil, Uncharted, The Last of Us, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon, Gran Turismo, Fallout, Halo, Assassin’s Creed, Sonic, Mario, Borderlands, and Rainbow Six, just to name a few.
