Back at the end of January this year, longtime Sonic the Hedgehog voice actor Roger Craig Smith broke many a heart when he announced that he would no longer be providing his talents to the series. The reasons for the breakup were never made publicly available, but fans were disappointed and Craig was very gracious as he thanked them for years of support. Well, it seems that maybe someone at Sega HQ and/or Smith had a change of heart, as the Blue Blur’s voice actor is back!
I can’t fully express my gratitude for the @sonic_hedgehog crew and community.
I hope to honor your support and passion as I’m officially back voicing #SonicTheHedgehog in games.
Can’t wait for ya to see what we have planned!
THANK YOU…from the bottom of my blue heart.

To be frank, the uncoupling never made a lot of sense—Craig is pretty much synonymous with the role, so outside of him being the one who wanted to move on, it didn’t feel right to think that Sega would willingly get rid of him. Thankfully, it’s a mystery that no one has to spend any more time trying to unfurl. Craig is back and promising big things. What could they be? We might found out in a few hours when Sonic Central begins its broadcast at 9 AM PST!
