Nintendo first announced that it was working on a full sequel to Breath of the Wild in 2019, and updates regarding when we’ll be able to play the game have been very slow. The company showed off the sequel to Breath of the Wild in a trailer during E3 2021 and promised a 2022 release date, but in March pushed the game back to spring 2023. Now it seems as though we’ll have to wait until May 2023 to play the game.
Nintendo finally revealed the title and release date for the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild today. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the name of the latest game. Nintendo didn’t reveal many specifics about what to expect from the game in the new trailer, but we did get some in-game action footage of Link. We get another look at the Sheikah Slate’s new power that seemingly reverses time.
Another thing we saw was that Link climbs to the top of a rock that begins to fall upwards. As in the previous trailer, Link takes several big jumps into the sky, but in one shot, he lands on some new bird-shaped glider. And there’s a brief moment where Link climbs by himself, so it seems like players should expect that climbing large obstacles is a big part of the sequel as well.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will launch on May 12th, 2023, for the Nintendo Switch.
