Paradox Interactive, and Hardsuit Labs have revealed that their upcoming RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 will be delayed again, this time to next year.

A sequel to the Troika Games cult-classic Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, Bloodlines 2 was originally announced in 2019, 15 years after the original game released, with a release window of Q1 2020. Late last year, it was delayed to a general 2020 release window, with the team emphasizing quality and citing how due to a variety of reasons the original game was rushed out and the team not wanting to repeat that mistake.

Earlier today, the team released a message saying they are moving the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 released date to 2021, calling it a difficult decision. In their post they say that, "moving launch is one of the changes we are making to ensure the best player experience possible", and that it wasn't the first option considered and that there were other organizational changes made to achieve the goal of their new launch timing, which they will share in the future.

What is the Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 release date?

At this time, we don't have a release date for Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, beyond a general 2021 release window, that they announced today.

Quick Take

As a fan of the original, I am hopeful this means we won't end up with another sewer like sequence, wherein the game is turned into a meaningless combat slog as happened with the end of the first. That said, it is interesting that this time we get a message from Andy Kipling and Jackob Munthe of Paradox, instead of Kipling and Mitsoda. The mention of a reorganizational change does raise the question slightly if they have reorganized things there – especially when one considers projects like Alpha Protocol that Mitsoda was at one point in charge of that had problems getting out the door.

Another possible reason for this though is they don't want to run into a buzz saw like the original did. The first game released right after Half-Life 2 because that was literally the earliest it could release due to the Source license and it meant the game was eclipsed in the public eye. One can easily imagine Cyberpunk 2077 doing the same in Q4 2020 to its sequel.
