Pre-orders have opened up for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and Activision is offering purchase options for current and next-gen systems. Different perks and advantages can be found in each bundle, depending on the pack that fans decide to buy,

Xbox fans can look forward to an additional bonus if they purchase a slightly marked up Xbox Series X version of the game. Each of the pre-order bundles comes with additional content, and fans that pre-purchase the game early can get access to the beta.

Xbox fans that intend on buying the Xbox Series X can rest easy knowing that if they purchase a physical Series X copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War it will come with an Xbox One copy as well. This makes upgrading systems and purchasing the next Call of Duty a simple process. With cross-platform progression, players can have all their Xbox One progress travel with them when they upgrade to the next system.

It is worth noting that the Xbox Series X release does cost more than the Standard Xbox One edition, though, and purchasing the standard edition of the Xbox One edition does not allow for an upgrade to the Series X version.

This courtesy bundle is a bit different for PlayStation 4 users. Those buying PS4 copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War to later play on the PlayStation 5, need to buy the Cross-Gen Edition, or be prepared to purchase the digital upgrade. Progression will still be account bound, allowing it to transfer to the next console.

PC fans also have different rules when it comes to this release. There is currently no physical edition of the game so their purchase will be strictly digital. Although this is a minor inconvenience, it does mean that players who collect each of the varying titles in disc form will not have that opportunity in this launch.

With Microsoft’s focus on not dividing the gaming population with the release of the Xbox Series X, Activision’s bundle plan seems like a great idea. Microsoft has previously stated that they will maintain cross-play opportunities between the Xbox One and Series X as long as developers continue to release on both platforms. How long this will last is unknown, but until then Xbox fans can upgrade at their convenience rather than being forced onto the new platform out of necessity.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be released on November 13th.
