Detroit: Become Human Passes 5 Million Units Sold

It’s more than two years old at this point but Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human is still racking in the sales. According to the developer, the narrative adventure game has sold over five million units across all platforms. Interestingly, this milestone was reached just one month after the game became available on Steam (after the PC version was originally exclusive to the Epic Games Store).

Quantic Dream co-CEO and head of publishing Guillaume de Fondaumiere stated in a press release that, “Launching Detroit: Become Human on Steam has been a delightful experience for us. The response we’re seeing has been incredibly positive, in particular in Asian markets. We are also thrilled by the response garnered by the concomitant release of our Community Play extension for streamers and viewers on Twitch, which elevated a fundamentally single player game into a social experience.”

Detroit: Become Human first launched in 2018 for the PS4 as a console exclusive. Despite some mixed reactions to the story, it garnered praise for its characterization, presentation and visual fidelity. You can check out our review for the same here.

In December 2019, the PC version hit the Epic Games Store along with other Quantic Dream titles like Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain before coming to Steam in June 2020. What’s next for the developer, especially with its shift to self-publishing and tease of “exciting new projects”? Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
