Logitech G203 Prodigy Gaming Mouse review – Wired Starter, Decent Wired Starter

Logitech G203 Prodigy wired started

Logitech has always been a go-to brand for PC/Mac-based peripherals over the years, with surprisingly good build quality and features compared to its competition. They are also starting to release more entry-level gaming equipment to meet demand and today we’re looking at the Logitech G203 Lightsync Gaming Mouse.

The aim here is to provide entry-level gamers with a versatile mouse that can be used both in and out of the Warzone. First up, here are some specs straight from its Amazon listing:

An All-Round Test

Throughout this review, the G203 has been used for day to day web browsing, office tasks, video editing and playing Unreal Tournament and CS: GO. Out of the box, it handles these day to day tasks efficiently on a plug and play basis. But the real magic happens when players download Logitech’s very own custom peripheral software; GHUB.

GHUB drags an entry-level mouse with RGB lighting to a solid gaming mouse.

Through the software, the sensitivity of Logitech G203 can be switched all the way up to 6,000 DPI for solid control of any games play space. Its side buttons can be mapped to any key. For example, I mapped the up and down sidekeys to Control and Shift for easy crouch and skipping in Unreal Tournament. Different profiles can be saved so players can switch from their web browsing setup to CS:GO configuration in a matter of seconds.

The lighting and patterns are only completely customisable and can sync up with other LIGHTSYNC devices, which is something this reviewer would be most thankful for. The speed of the animation and rate of colour change can all be set for a perfect-looking setup, everyone loves a bit of personalisation after all.

Classic Shape Comes with a Catch

The classic form-factor is comfortable but sometimes slips through one’s hands when handling the quick-fire situation in Unreal Tournament. It performed a lot better in CS:GO due to the pacing of the game. The wire is quite flexible but isn’t really suitable for players who don’t have a lot of desk space, the wire will alter movement when coming into contact with a screen stand for example.

Logitech G203

Whilst Logitech G203 is easy on the eyes and looks great in white alongside my Mac setup, the build quality is lacking. The buttons all function fine but lack definition when clicking, this often turned into more firing than necessary in-game. It doesn’t pack the punch that some gamers may look for in a gaming mouse. Speaking of weight, this mouse is very light. So much so it can be offputting when committing to tense moments in-game, leading to second-guessing movements in an arena FPS setting.

Mixed Mouse, Mangled Metaphor

Logitech have launched a wolf in sheep’s clothing, then told us what the wolf was up to. G203 has enough features to warrant a purchase for beginners on a budget, but ultimately serves as a window into another world for buyers looking to take a jump into PC gaming.

Logitech G203 does a great job of executing daily activities, but serious players may wish to up their budget for something a little less of a hybrid.
