PS5’s “Activities” Feature Will Allow Players to Directly Boot up Specific Parts of Games – Rumour

Earlier this year, we reported on a patent filed by Sony that suggested that the PS5 might allow players to directly boot into specific parts of games directly from the console’s menu, such as hopping directly into matchmaking lobbies for a game rather than first having to boot it up and then having to head to matchmaking through in-game menus. Now, new developments are suggesting that that feature will indeed be part of the package when the PS5 launches this Holiday.

A preview of WRC 9 recently went up on Gamereactor, possibly spilling the beans on the same. The preview has since been taken down, but the relevant portion of the article was spotted and shared by Gematsu on Twitter (you can read the archived version of the preview through here). Specifically, the portion of the preview in question explicitly mentions a PS5 feature called “Activities”, which is described as “an instant deeplink to specific races directly from the console’s menu.”

Such a feature has, of course, not been unveiled by Sony so far, but it’s likely that it will be sooner rather than later. Over on Twitter, Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad – who describes Activities as “deep level integration between the PS5 OS and games to improve the overall experience for users” – says that we should be hearing more about it “soon”.

Until such time Sony officially confirms anything, it’s best to tread with caution, but with a PS5-focused State of Play strongly rumoured for August, it’s possible that Sony might have plans to reveal the console’s Activities feature, among other things, very soon. Stay tuned, and we’ll keep you updated as more information comes our way.
