But It Might Not Be That Way Forever

The Rocket League Shared Inventory is a pretty cool new development to allow for cross-platform enhancements, but there's a hitch — not all of your DLC is going to be available on every platform.

If you haven't been keeping up with Rocket League, it's been a pretty popular game — more than 75 million people have played it in its first five years. Psyonix has its eyes on the future, though, and it will soon make the transition to free-to-play along with the ability to share your inventory across platforms.

"Shared Inventory is a major part of Rocket League’s cross-platform progression," read a news post on the game's official website. "Each platform you link to your Epic Games Account shares its inventory with your other connected platforms, with a few key exceptions. For example, if you completed Rocket Pass 2 on your PC but also play on other platforms, you can now use those Rocket Pass 2 items everywhere."

Note the bit about "a few key exceptions" — unfortunately, not all of your Rocket League Shared Inventory will be coming with you.

What Can't Be Shared with Your Rocket League Shared Inventory?

Psyonix has released a list that details what will and will not be available as part of your Shared Inventory in Rocket League.

Rocket League Items Shared Across Platforms

  • All earned free drops (Common Items, Event Items)
  • Season Rewards & Titles
  • Rocket Pass Items
  • Item Shop Purchases
  • Blueprints and items built from blueprints
  • All Rocket League-branded DLC included in the Legacy Pack

Items That Can't Be Shared

  • Platform-Exclusive Items: e.g., Sweet Tooth, Hogsticker, Armadillo, Mario and Luigi NSR, and Samus' Gunship
  • Ultimate Edition On-Disc DLC: Batman/DC Superheroes Pack
  • Premium DLC Packs: licensed content that was previously available in the Showroom (e.g. Back To The Future, Jurassic World, DC Superheroes, Fast and the Furious, Ghostbusters, Knight Rider, etc.)
  • Credits and Esports tokens balances

Some of the exclusions make sense — I certainly wouldn't expect PS4-exclusive items to be available when I'm playing on my Xbox. However, some of the omissions are a little more disappointing.

For example, premium DLC packs can't be moved across platforms for some reason. It probably has something to do with the licensing arrangements, but it's not all bad news — Psyonix says that they're working on making these DLC packs available on all platforms.

Unfortunately, the DLC packs won't be available on all platforms by the time the game transitions to its free-to-play model. For now, you buy Rocket League on Steam for $19.99 or your regional equivalent.

What do you think of how the Rocket League Shared Inventory will work? Are you disappointed that some items can't be moved across platforms? Let us know in the comments below!

I've had a controller in my hand since I was 4 and I haven't stopped gaming since. CCGs, Tabletop Games, Pen & Paper RPGs – I've tried a whole bunch of stuff over the years and I'm always looking to try more!
