Samsung said UFS 4.0 will be used first in flagship smartphones to meet the need for higher data throughput speeds when processing high-resolution images and heavy-duty gaming. In the future, UFS 4.0 will also be popular on more mobile devices, AR and VR devices.

The industry’s first UFS 4.0 mobile storage, developed by Samsung in May, is scheduled to enter mass production this month. The new UFS 4.0 will be a critical component in flagship smartphones that require large amounts of data processing for features like high-resolution images and graphics-heavy mobile games, and will later be used in mobility, VR, and AR.

Said, Samsung Semiconductor.

There is also the view that UFS 4.0 flagships have to wait until November when the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 platform is officially launched and applied to flagships using the platform, such as the Xiaomi 13 Series, and Samsung Galaxy S23 Series, etc.

It is understood that UFS 4.0 bandwidth speed per channel increased to 23.2Gbps, which is twice as fast as UFS 3.1. Based on Samsung’s seventh-generation V-NAND flash memory and self-developed master control, the measured sequential read speed can reach 4200MB/s, and sequential write speed can reach 2800MB/s.

In addition to the speed increase, UFS 4.0 flash memory has the advantage of lower power consumption per unit, smaller package size, and a single chip capacity of 1TB.
