Atelier Ryza

Gust have released a life-size 5’7″ (1.7m) tall figure of Atelier Ryza to celebrate the announcement of Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy.

Famitsu reports that the official Gust Shop have opened pre-orders for a life-size Atelier Ryza figure. Created by Wonder Works, it stands at 172 cm (including base), approximately 151 cm wide, and approximately 54 cm deep. The figure is made of FRP and acrylic. It is based off Ryza’s appearance in Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout.

Pre-orders will begin July 30th until August 30th- provided at least 10 people order it. The figure will be available for ¥2.75 million (almost $26,000 USD) with free shipping- but only shipping to Japan. However, a 1/7th scale is being produced in the future, which is likely to be easier to ship internationally (and easier on the wallet).

You can find images of the figure being constructed and the finished product below.

The figure is part of the “Rising Ryza Fes” to celebrate the announcement of Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy. Other merchandise include folders, canvas tote bags, tapestries.

Toridamono- the character designer both games- explained that he was inspired to allow the figure to be created, after one day on Twitter where he noticed everyone talking about the character’s thighs. Toridamono then spoke to Koei Tecmo.

As the character “became a very popular character in an instant” (translation: Google Translate) and there had been discussions about figures for the character, Koei Tecmo welcomed the proposal. They also stated the figures could be used at promotional events.

The popularity of the character’s thighs did not escape Wonder Works. On the official website they state “I made the volume of the thigh so that it overflows more than the illustration of Mr. Toridamono! The hips have a lot of volume and can’t be seen in the picture [the fifth in our gallery above], but because they are figures that can be seen in all directions, the shorts are made to stick out a little.”

The figure’s nails are even manicured and transparent to help make them look more realistic, as well as various alchemist accouterments such as vials of liquid. Mass production is possible, but the jacket is more difficult, made in two halves and requiring special assembly that risks damage or paint being rubbed off.

Ryza’s popularity is obvious, being the first Atelier protagonist to remain as such in a direct sequel, but the game’s producer Junzo Hosoi claimed that he was surprised so many found the main character sexy.
