Final Fantasy V and VI to be Delisted on Steam July 27 for Pixel Remasters

Final Fantasy V VI Delisted Steam

Final Fantasy V and VI are being delisted from Steam, in preparation for the upcoming Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster.

As noticed by Twitter user @RobotBrush (who posts about gaming news and new Steam pages), the Steam pages for Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI have added disclaimers that they will no longer be available for purchase after July 27th. The disclaimer encourages purchase of the pixilated remaster version “coming soon.”

While the games have Mostly Positive and Very Positive reviews respectively, a common critique of the games is the redrawn sprites being over-simplified (possibly via machine). The games are also based off mobile ports, meaning the UI is still designed for touch screens (now replicated via the mouse).

A now delisted Japanese trailer (as noted by Wario64, another Twitter account focused on gaming news), shows the sprites as being more accurate to their original counterparts, perhaps with brighter colors for modern systems.

At this time, there has been no official word from Square Enix, and we are unsure if those who purchased the current versions of Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI on Steam will be able to get a free upgrade to the pixel remastered version (as some have done with improved versions, such as Red Faction Guerilla: ReMarstered).

The current version of Fantasy V on Steam includes The Sealed Temple from the 2016 release, four new classes, and the Enuo optional boss. Both it and Final Fantasy VI includes Steam achievements and trading cards.

Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV will remain seemingly untouched, as those games were remade in 3D for the Nintendo 3DS; and later ported to Steam. As previously reported, the first six Final Fantasy titles that make up the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster will be sold separately. The July 27th delisting date may also suggest the release date for the remakes.

We shall keep you informed as we learn more.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster is coming soon to Windows PC (via Steam), and mobile.
