Among the pile of details confirmed for Black Ops Cold War, Activision confirmed in a press release that the game would feature cross-play and include cross-progression, much like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has. This means that multiplayer lobbies will still be full of players from PlayStation and Xbox One as well as PC players. Cross-progression has been a welcome addition to the franchise which means that players who have a copy of the game across different consoles can still enjoy their unlocks, loadouts, and operators all the same.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is slated to release on the next-generation consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, whenever they officially launch. It has been confirmed that cross-play and cross-progression will include the new consoles coming this holiday. However, the downside to that is, Black Ops Cold War is not featuring a free upgrade to fans who purchase the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. Fans will need to buy the slightly more expensive version of the game, aptly called the Black Ops Cold War Cross-Gen Bundle which will run players a nice $69.99.
A ton of other information about Black Ops Cold War has dropped today with the focus being on the game’s campaign mode which is now confirmed to be developed by Raven Software. The story mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War brings players back to the 1980s and takes them through an insane conspiracy story. The game’s narrative features fan-favorite characters such as Frank Woods, Jason Judson, and Alex Mason and will see these characters interact with other historical figures like Ronald Reagan.
Fans won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on the latest Call of Duty title, as Black Ops Cold War is scheduled to release on November 13. Before that, fans can count down the days until the full multiplayer reveal which is taking place on September 9, and hopefully, players will receive information regarding the Black Ops Cold War beta.
