During Gamescom 2020’s Opening Night Live presentation, id Software and Bethesda released a new trailer for Doom Eternal’s upcoming major DLC expansion called The Ancient Gods Part One. As its name clearly implies, The Ancient Gods will be the first half of a two-part story where the Doom Slayer encounters another ancient evil.

As promised, the latest trailer for Doom Eternal’s The Ancient Gods Part One DLC is filled with many details on what players should expect on the upcoming expansion. Now, those who may have missed the official Gamescom 2020 reveal, here is everything players need to know before purchasing Doom Eternal The Ancient Gods Part One.

The Ancient Gods was first announced at the beginning of QuakeCon 2020 a couple of weeks ago and Bethesda revealed that the DLC’s story will begin right after the end of Doom Eternal’s main campaign. In a press release, Bethesda said that players will “confront an ancient evil awoken from an imbalance in the heavens.” Moreover, players should also expect “fierce new demons” to slay in the upcoming story expansion. Although specific details about how the story will unfold in the DLC, players should expect to clean up the mess made from the base game by creating an even bloodier one.

Apart from a new storyline, The Ancient Gods Part One will also include new levels, new enemies, and new NPCs. Combat-wise, id Software confirmed that The Ancient Gods Part One will be delivering a more adrenaline-fueled action experience that will satisfy the need of Doom Eternal players. However, players must know that the expansion won’t be including any new weapons given the amount of time required to fully introduce well-balanced weapons. Although the Gamescom trailer for The Ancient Gods did divulge tons of information about the upcoming expansion, it still kept the main plot of the DLC a secret. Of course, players will have to discover everything that the single-player DLC will offer by experiencing it for themselves.

One thing that the Gamescom trailer for The Ancient Gods Part One did confirm is that the expansion is set to release on October 20, 2020. The DLC is already part of Doom Eternal’s Season One Pass, which is included in the deluxe edition, but players can still purchase the pass for $29.99. However, id Software also revealed that players won’t need to own Doom Eternal in order to access The Ancient Gods Part One given that the DLC can be purchased separately for $19.99. Those who prefer to get the DLC on its own will also be given access to Battlemode, which is Doom Eternal’s 2v1, best-of-five rounds multiplayer match.

Of course, now that Part One of the DLC is already set for release in October, fans may now be wondering when will Part Two see the light of day. At the moment, the developers still haven’t fixed an exact release date for the next installment of the DLC, but the studio did reiterate that both Part One and Part Two will be included in Doom Eternal’s Season One pass.

This means that players who either got the deluxe edition of Doom Eternal or proceeded to purchase the season pass separately will be getting both DLC expansions with the season pass. As for the exact release date, executive producer Marty Stratton said that the second DLC may be released in March 2021 at the latest. It could even release sometime this year, but that would depend on how the development will go, especially since the studio is facing challenges due to the current pandemic. Nonetheless, players should rest assured that the second DLC will release within Doom Eternal’s first year.

Doom Eternal is out now for the PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with plans to launch on PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X later this year.
