Another day, another leak from the dataminers of Apex Legends. Usually when an update drops, particularly the large updates that come at the start of a season, like the update for Season 6 Boosted, a lot of information is included in the code for things that may be coming down the line later. This could be because the developer, Respawn Entertainment, is actively working on things and needs to include them into the games code to see how it affects the rest of the game.
This of course means that things are out there for dataminers to hunt down and share with those who want to know what’s next. Usually things that are spotted by dataminers are things that are not massive, like the possible addition of ground emotes or details on the upcoming Halloween-themed event for October. But this new piece of datamined information could shake up Apex Legends quite a bit.

According to dataminer Shrugtal, provider of such reliable information as the recent paintball hop-up event from the end of Season 5, a new kind of weapon may be coming to the game. Interestingly enough though, the root of this story is tied to an official dev stream. Some video clips shown during the dev stream included a mysterious extra slot for something on the bottom of the screen. Shrugtal has deduced that it may be tied to a new item in the game’s code called a “gadget.”
It doesn’t seem like Shrugtal is able to make the “gadgets” active or test them, so their best guess is that the gadgets are non-damaging throwables like smoke grenades. What the gadgets actually could truly be though is anyone’s guess. It is possible they could come into play during the course of Season 6, or that the gadgets will not be finished until the next season. Of course game development is difficult, and it could be scrapped altogether, so those who are excited should keep that in mind.
Funnily enough, this does not seem to be the first time a new weapon type has been accidentally revealed by a developer from Respawn. Just earlier this month, an official piece of concept art appeared online with what appeared to be a crossbow on the ground.
Perhaps the next Limited Time Mode could introduce the crossbow or gadgets, afterall, the last LTM did introduce the paintball hop-up.
Apex Legends is free-to-play for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version to follow sometime this fall.
