XSeed Games have announced the western release date of vampire-stripping action game Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed.
A HD remake of the 2011 PSP game, the game is set around 2012’s Akihabara; Japan’s oktaku capitol. The city is also home to vampire-like Shadow Souls, who can make themselves indistinguishable from humans, and possess humans by biting them. After identifying them with a special camera, players pummel foes and strip them down to expose them to sunlight to finish them off.
While technically announced during E3 2019, 2020’s issues with the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic no doubt caused delays and issues; leading to a soft re-announcement. In Japan, the game launched on May 20th, 2021.
Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed launches in the west Summer 2021 for Windows PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4.
You can find the announcement trailer below.
In addition, there is a special Day 1 10th Anniversary Edition. Based on the official website and tweet, this appears to contain a complete two disc soundtrack, art book, and collector’s box.
You can find the full rundown (via the official website) below.
Welcome to Akihabara, agent.
If this is your first time here, you may find the culture a bit unusual, to say the least. But to those who lead their lives here, it’s a paradise. They see it as a safe haven from the outside world, where they can celebrate the music, the games, the shows, and the characters they love.
We’re here to keep it that way.
None of them know what’s happening here. What’s watching them, hunting them, picking off their friends who get lost after dark. Why those friends resurface as hopeless shut-ins, barely able to speak, let alone walk outside ever again.
We’re still gathering information for now, but check back soon for the latest on our contacts, intel, equipment, and techniques.
For Japan and humanity,
Acting Director Ryuji Sejima
