Assassin's Creed now has an official cookbook filled with 40 recipes inspired by the eras in which the series' games have been set.
Video games and food do have a link, even if it is a somewhat tenuous and downright unhealthy one. When you hear the words gamer and food in the same sentence, the sort of things that spring to mind are Doritos and Mountain Dew. Unfair, perhaps, but there's good reason for the connection as the stereotype is reinforced on a pretty regular basis.
If you want to be behind the movement to eradicate that stereotype, then a good place to start might be the new Assassin's Creed cookbook. Sorry, Assassin's Creed: The Culinary Codex. A book filled with 40 different recipes lifted from the various eras in which the Ubisoft games are based.

This was probably a tricky book to piece together since there is very little cooking and eating in the Assassin's Creed series. Recipes to be found within the codex's pages include Boston Apple Pie, Rooks' Bread Pudding, and Colonial Coleslaw. Not going to lie, that last one sounds like nothing more than an idea born out of alliteration, and we're highly skeptical of a recipe for coleslaw that was created during the colonial era.
The book hasn't been thrown together by some nobody, though. Its author, Thibaud Villanova is responsible for a number of very similar cookbooks and appears to be quite the expert when it comes to fictional feasts. Villanova has filled cookbooks with recipes lifted from and inspired by Star Wars, Disney movies, and even Dragonball Z. That last one deserves a spot on anyone's reading list, foodie or otherwise.
The Culinary Codex has been available in French for a while, Villanova's native language. However, it has now been translated into English and can be bought for $29.99. That might seem like a lot for a cookbook containing only 40 recipes. However, if you are planning an Assassin's Creed-themed dinner party, which we're sure you are by this point, then the Culinary Codex is an absolute must-buy, regardless of its retail price.
