Optional tasks, side quests, and similar non-essential adventures in video games often hold bonus loot and rewards that can prepare one for the coming challenges of the main quests. Though, they are almost always full of danger themselves, for there is no reward without risk when it comes to traveling through demon-filled woods at night.

Those deepening their knowledge of demonology in Black Book, a sinister game by Russian indie developer Morteshka, can fulfill their very first optional task in the prologue of the game. This leg of the young witch Vasilisa's adventure will involve her, and the player controlling her, heading to Kusheva Village to deal with some pesky minor demons harassing the little town.
After speaking with one's mentor, Old Egor, players will learn that he sent a chort (a type of minor minion demon) to Kusheva Village to get them out of the way, however, the little fiend seems to be stirring up some trouble and allying with other demons in the area to haunt the house of an unfortunate family.

To seek out this possessed house in Kusheva Village, players will have to head up the western path in the prologue of the game. Vasilisa will have to pass through another location along the way, however, it is not one that involves combat, so players should be safe to make the trip without fear of a surprise demon attack.
When reaching Kusheva Village, players will have a chance to talk with a young woman representing the family who has been scared out of their house by the demons. In the decision that can be made here, be sure to ask if the family had made the sign of a cross over a type of jug for drinks called a samovar. This will net the player a bonus of 50 Exp before the rest of the situation unfolds.

The reason to bring up blessing jugs is that the family has been subjected to ornaments and objects flying about the house, as if a poltergeist was present, though, in the lore of this region set in eastern Europe, there are no such ghostly figures. Demons have been meddling with inanimate objects as a result of the family forgetting to bless their containers, though, the only way to get rid of them now is to fight them off.
There will be a pair of demons in this confrontation, so it will be important to choose which one of these fiends to take down first. While it will be tempting to focus on the larger demon who is dishing out the bigger hits, it is advised not to exert effort doing so, as Vasilisa will not be able to get a clear hit on them most of the time.
The little enemy, the demon in the clanking pot, will frequently apply defensive buffs to their ally, drastically reducing the damage that the player can do to them, so it's highly recommended to take out the smaller demon first. After doing so, the resulting one-on-one showdown with the larger demon should go a lot smoother.
