Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has now been officially unveiled in full, and as had been leaked earlier, it won’t support free next-gen upgrades. In fact, it will be priced higher on next-gen consoles. As Charlie INTEL reports, on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s PS5 and Xbox Series X versions will cost $69.99, which is $10 higher than the standard prices AAA games have released at for over a decade. On PS4 and Xbox One, that is the price reserved for the Cross-Gen bundle, which will grant “free” access to PS5 and Xbox Series X versions respectively.

Activision becomes the second major publisher to raise prices of its games heading into the next console generation, with Take-Two Interactive being the first to make that decision with NBA 2K21’s PS5 and Xbox Series X versions. Analysts have suggested that several other major publishers in the industry are also considering making the same change.

Ubisoft have said that their games releasing in 2020 will launch at the standard $60 price, but they haven’t commented on what their policy will be beyond that. Meanwhile, Capcom have suggested that they’re undecided on the matter, and will be monitoring industry trends before making a decision either way.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 13, and later for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Recently, plenty of details on the game’s campaign went live, covering player choice, character creation, the narrative premise, and more. Read all about that through here.
