The Call of Duty series has been one of the single most successful gaming IPs ever. While there’s been plenty of series that have had individual entries sell more, few outside annual sports games have had the kind of constant blockbuster success on a yearly basis that COD has. Now, the franchise even has a free battle royale mode running alongside the annual title with Warzone. And it sounds like it could be coming to mobile.
A new job listing popped up from publisher Activision looking for an Executive Producer for a new project that seems to be Warzone on mobile. The listing has since been taken down, because it was apparently already filled, but Charlie Intel managed to capture it before that. There it describes a project called WZM (Warzone Mobile), then later names the game specifically with comments like needing to “harvest, adapt and deliver the essential features from Warzone console and PC into their best mobile instantiation.” There already is a Call of Duty: Mobile running for both iOS and Android that’s been successful, and it’s unclear if this would serve as a replacement or be released alongside it.
The last game in the franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, will release on November 13th, and it has been confirmed that the title will be incorporated with Warzone. The free to play game seems to be a big part of the series’ future, so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see it adapted to mobile.
