Chloe Bennet Will No Longer Be Playing Blossom In The Powerpuff Pilot

Chloe Bennet has sadly dropped out of the pilot for the anticipated live-action pilot for the series PowerPuff. Bennet was cast as the leader of the pack, Blossom. PowerPuff is based on Cartoon Network’s hit animated series, The Powerpuff Girls, written by Craig McCracken. The original animated series focused on a group of young girls who are accidently created in the lab by a professor with a little sugar, spice, and everything nice (along with an accidental dose of chemical X).

This new rendition that Bennet had to decline is much more dark and adult-driven. The CW announced and confirmed the Powerpuff series back in August of last year. It begs the question what exactly may be holding the show back from airing, especially since all of the other Powerpuff girls have been cast. Dove Cameron has been cast as Bubbles and Yana Perrault will be taking on the role of Buttercup.

The main thing that has been keeping the series from getting off the ground is mostly due to the quality of the pilot. The pilot that features Bennet cast as Blossom was meant to be considered and picked up in time for the television season. Ultimately, the CW announced that they would be completely re-shooting it. The president of CW, Mark Pedowitz claimed that he felt the pilot was “a little too campy.”

The CW had made it clear that although the series is based on the cartoon, the live-action version was to follow a much more serious tone. The pilot was supposed to feature the Powerpuff girls as now full-fledged adults who are struggling with resentment in regards to their childhood. The girls have grown and matured, and are mourning the childhood they were not allowed to have due to their responsibility to keep the town safe. Apparently, the first pilot wasn’t what they had envisioned and therefore went about the process of re-shooting it.

Warner Bros. began to reach out to the cast and was adamant about being flexible when it came to implementing a new schedule. Unfortunately, due to having to re-shoot the entire pilot and switching up the schedule dates, Bennet subsequently had to step down. The good news is that the show is still under way and that casting for Bennet’s previous role, Blossom, is set to begin in the fall.
