Cyberpunk 2077 on Consoles Will be “A Good, Playable, Stable Game” After Upcoming Updates

Cyberpunk 2077_02

Cyberpunk 2077 has been getting lambasted by critics and audiences alike for its PS4 and Xbox One versions in all corners of the industry, owing to a bevy of technical issues. CD Projekt RED has issued an apology for the same, and says that updates will be coming over the next couple of months to iron out most of those issues. In a recent conference call, the developer spoke more about those patches, and what players can expect from it.

Similar to what they said in their aforementioned apology, CD Projekt RED’s Michał Nowakowski states that players shouldn’t expect Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One to be anywhere close to the level of fidelity or performance that the game displays on high-spec PCs- though it will, at the very least, be a “stable” and “playable” game without any crashes.

“Come January and February you’re going to see larger improvements – which we’ve stated already,” Nowakowski said. “We have also stated that if your expectation is that the game is going to be equal to, say, next-gens or PC in terms of performance, that definitely isn’t going to happen. Having said that, I’m not saying it’s going to be a bad game – but if you’re expectations regarding, say, visuals or other performance angle, are like this, then we’re openly stating that’s not going to be the case. It will be a good, playable, stable game, without glitches and crashes, though. That’s the intention.”

In the same call, CD Projekt RED also spoke about the primary reasons behind Cyberpunk 2077’s state on consoles, saying that they underestimated how complicated it would be to get the game running satisfactorily on PS4 and Xbox One.

Like everyone else, we have also had vastly different experiences with the game on PC and consoles. Our PC review was quite positive, though our console review was much more lukewarm. You can read both through the links.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available right now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Stadia had the last laugh.
