While The Witch Queen is the centerpiece of Bungie's reveal stream, players now have their first look at what's in store for Destiny 2's next season. Season of the Lost is kicking off the march to The Witch Queen's 2022 release, setting the final pieces in place before Savathun makes her full presence known. Players got their first look at what's in store for the rest of 2021 in a new trailer kicking off Season of the Lost, running from August 24 until February 22, 2022.
Awoken Queen Mara Sov is front-and-center in the trailer as one of Season of the Lost's most prominent characters. Mara is back inside the Dreaming City after leaving to battle the Darkness nearly two-and-a-half years ago following the events of Forsaken, in preparation for the coming battle with Savathun. To do this, she is calling on Guardians to help her save the other Techuens seemingly trapped inside the Shattered Realm before they fall victim to Savathun's sister, Xivu Arath.

Other characters confirmed for the season include Saint-14, Petra Venj, the Crow, and Osiris. However, given the events of the last few seasons, doubt remains as to whether Osiris is himself or Savathun.
The two activites at the heart of Season of the Lost are Astral Alignment and Shattered Realm missions. Astral Aligntment is Destiny 2's newest six-player matchmade activity where players are tasked with activating Awoken technology to map paths through Mara's broken Ascendant realm. It leads straight into the Shattered Realm missions, weekly story missions taking players inside the Ascendant plane to rescue the lost Techeuns.
Matchmaking for Astral Alignment, and various other activites, is going to get easier in Season of the Lost as well with the launch of crossplay. Players will now get to enjoy Destiny 2 with anyone, regardless of platform, when battling the enemies of the Light across the solar system. Crossplay is free for all players, with players now being identified by Bungie Names when hoping into crossplay.
Players will also get their hands on two new exotic weapons, one via the season pass and the other through the new exotic quest. The season pass exotic is the Lorentz Driver, a new linear fusion rifle capable of delivering "perfectly-placed implosions." The quest exotic is Ager's Scepter, a stasis trace rifle meant for Uldren Sov that's been locked away since before his resurrection as the Crow. There is plenty more gear to grind for, as well, with new armor sets, armor ornaments, and weapons inside the season.
Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
