DiRT 5 PS5 Release Date Not Yet Decided, Progress Won’t Carry Over From PS4

DiRT 5 will be one of many major third party multiplatform titles that will be launching as cross-gen releases and as next-gen launch titles. Codemasters’ racer has been confirmed to be coming to the Xbox Series X / S on November 10– but what about the PS5? Sony’s console is out on November 12 in some regions, and on November 19 everywhere else, so is DiRT 5 going to be a launch title for it as well?

Well, as it turns out, that’s yet to be confirmed. Answering fans’ questions on Twitter, Codemasters recently confirmed that the launch date for DiRT 5’s PS5 version actually hasn’t been decided yet, and that they will “spread the word” the moment that is set in stone.

Meanwhile, they’ve also confirmed that DiRT 5, which will support free next-gen upgrades on PlayStation, will not allow players to transfer their save data from the PS4 version should they upgrade to PS5. Any creations you make in the Playground mode will carry over, but any other progress – any currency earned, saved liveries, progress made in the Career mode – will be left behind. “If that changes, we’ll let you know,” the developer adds.

This is not the first time we’re hearing about cross-gen progression not being supported on PlayStation. It was recently confirmed that Yakuza: Like a Dragon won’t support PS4 to PS5 save transfers.

Codemasters also confirms that Playground Mode won’t support cross-play across PlayStation and Xbox, but any and all creations in Playground will have cross-gen support, so tracks made on PS4 or Xbox One will be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S respectively (and vice versa).

Whenever it does launch on PS5, DiRT 5 will run at 4K and 60 FPS, with an optional mode that will kick that frame rate all the way up to 120 FPS.

Launch dates for other platforms for DiRT 5 have been confirmed, of course. It will release for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 6, for Xbox Series X and Series S on November 10, and for Stadia some time in 2021.

Currently on Xbox, all progress can be carried over between generations. On PlayStation, your Playgrounds creations can be carried over, but other game progress (Career, currency, saved liveries) cannot. If that changes, we'll let you know!

Thank you! Currently Playgrounds creations will not be cross-platform, but they will be cross-generational. So if you're playing on PS5, and someone has published a Playground on PS4, you'll be able to discover it and race on it ?

We haven't confirmed an exact release date for DIRT 5 on PS5 just yet – the moment it's confirmed, we'll spread the word ?
