Yesterday was the first night of Gamescom 2020, and as part of the proceedings, Doom Eternal got a release date for part 1 of its upcoming Ancient Gods DLC. That still leaves part 2 of the DLC as somewhat of a mystery, however, an interview with executive producer Marty Stratton has provided a release window for Ancient Gods part 2.

Doom Eternal first released in March,  as the fifth main game in the long-running Doom series. Meanwhile, the teaser trailer for Doom Eternal‘s first DLC Ancient Gods dropped at the beginning of August, with a full trailer (and release date) only just going up yesterday.

The one thing known for sure is that Ancient Gods part 1 is set to release on October 20, 2020; based on that date and PCGamesN’s interview with Stratton, a window can be narrowed down for the release of part 2. “They’re both part of the Year One Pass,” said Executive Producer Stratton in a recent interview with PCGamesN. “So, you can suppose that they’re both within a year of launch.” As Doom Eternal launched in March, that means Ancient Gods part 2 is coming sometime between October 2020 and March 2021 – likely closer to March, since there’s usually some time left in between DLC releases.

Of course, the current state of the world has to be considered as well: COVID-19 has taken its toll on most business operations, and those in the gaming industry are no exception. During the interview, Stratton went on to explain that the pandemic did result in Doom Eternal‘s development team moving some things around and having to prioritize certain projects.

The team had intended to have Invasion done, but ended up having to push it back. In addition, the team had apparently wanted to release more on the Battle Mode front by now, but had to focus efforts on production of the DLC. Still, despite the influence of COVID, Stratton confirmed that in terms of DLC, the goal was still very much to get them both launched within the year-one timeframe.

So, it looks like fans of Doom Eternal won’t have to wait too long for either part of the Ancient Gods DLC, as the development team is on track to release both in a timely manner. In the meantime, players can grab the Year One Doom Eternal pass that includes both DLCs, or simply wait for the first part to launch and grab it as a standalone purchase.

Doom Eternal is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. It will also be coming to the Switch sometime in the future.
