The long-running Far Cry franchise has seen its fair share of DLC packs over the course of its run, but few have reached the level of acclaim that Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon did. An accessory to Far Cry 3, and eventually its own standalone title, the game offered players a starkly different experience than the base game, set in a sci-fi world inspired by 1980s action flicks. Soon, a different version of the DLC could be getting its own standalone release.
Far Cry 6 is on the horizon, and with the game comes a new season pass. Included in Far Cry 6's season pass is Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – Classic, a port of the original DLC. However, as first spotted VG247, the ESRB website currently has a rating listed for Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – Classic, indicating that the game will also be available to those without a season pass.

This wouldn't be the first time that Ubisoft has done something like this, which lends the standalone version a bit more credence. For Far Cry 5, season pass holders were entitled to Far Cry 3 Classic, though Ubisoft went on to sell the game separately for $20. It's not hard to imagine the company doing something similar here, which would be a boon for those that don't want to shell out for the entire season pass.
Notably, there don't seem to be any major improvements to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – Classic, besides the game being a native port to newer hardware. There's also no indication what the final ticket price of the DLC would be as a standalone game, though a repeat of the $20 price tag doesn't seem too far off. It might be hard to sell the audience if it's a repeat of Far Cry 3 Classic, which many found to be underwhelming. That remains to be seen, of course, and fans likely won't know more until Ubisoft confirms a standalone release, if that is the plan.
Luckily, Far Cry 6 is slated to launch in just a few months, barring any more delays. It isn't entirely clear if Blood Dragon will drop alongside it, though it could give fans a healthy dose of nostalgia if it manages to check all of the boxes. In fact, Blood Dragon is unique in the sense that many would love to see a full remaster of it, despite it being a DLC rather than a full game. It did jumpstart Far Cry's proclivity for out-there DLC content, too, and that's paid off pretty well.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – Classic will be released as part of Far Cry 6's season pass.
