Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Rumored PS5/PC Release To Have New Story Content; No Xbox Release

While many fans are no doubt on the edge of their seat for what Square is going to do with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2, if rumors are to be believed, the publisher isn’t quite done with Part 1 just yet. We know that there is an exclusivity deal that will last at least until April for PS4, but rumors have been swirling that a PS5 and PC release will be revealed soon. Now, depending on how much you want to believe, it seems it could be more than just a simple port.

Over on the ResetERA gaming forums, insider/leaker Navtra has been giving details on the upcoming re-release. They say this version of the game was meant to be released roughly 8 months ago alongside Project Athia and Final Fantasy 16. That didn’t happen and while they acknowledge that their information could be outdated, they don’t believe the port has been canceled.

They say that it wouldn’t just be a simple resolution bump, but will feature some new story content. No details are given for what that will entail, whether we’re just talking about a few extra side missions or a full new scenario. Maybe more surprising was that they say there is no Xbox version planned, which is a bit of a shock when you consider the series has largely been multiplatform for several years now, though Sony seems to have clamped down on the series recently.

“The thing is, the port was supposed to be announced in the Future of Gaming event alongside Athia, XVI & Avenger‘s Spider-Man. Those announcements were spread out in the past few months and only this port remains.

“8 months have passed though and there’s the possibility my information might be outdated by now, that’s why I chose not to talk much about the content of the port and just confirm its existence. I guess there’s also the possibility it might’ve been canceled but I highly doubt that’s the case.

“Here’s what I last heard, though: It’s releasing for PS5/PC (No Xbox) and it’s a bit more substantial than a resolution increase. There’s new story content.”

As always with any kind of insider leaks, take it with a grain of salt, especially since the leaker themselves seem unsure. Some had hoped to hear something at this weekend’s concert, but teases of a FF7R announcement were based on a mistranslation, so odds are slim. It seems a no-brainer that the game will be re-released in some form relatively soon. Time will tell.
