Ghost of Tsushima Movie by John Wick Director Announced

Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions have announced a movie adaption of Ghost of Tsushima by John Wick director Chad Stahelski.

Deadline reports the film will be Directed by Stahelski, who also Directed the John Wick films. He, Alex Young, and Jason Spitz will produce the film through their company 87Eleven Entertainment.

While Sucker Punch Productions will act as Executive Producers, Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan will produce for PlayStation Productions. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Project Manager, CX Planning & Projects Peter Kang will oversee the project.

Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, told Deadline “We’re excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin’’s story to the big screen. We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.”

A premiere date was not announced at this time. We will keep you informed as we learn more.

The game is set in the late 13th century of the real-life Japanese island of Tsushima. As the Mongol empire continues to conquer the East, Khotun Khan and his fleet seize the island, hoping to press on into Japan.

Jin Sakai is one of the last surviving members of his clan, and faces the difficult choice between keeping the bushido code, or abandoning tradition and using the skills of the ninja- a Ghost- to win back his homeland.

Ghost of Tsushima previously sold 2.4 million units sold globally in the first three days of launch. This ensured it became the fastest-selling first-party original IP PlayStation 4 title. It reached 5 million copies in November 2020, with Deadline reporting the game has now sold over 6.5 million copies.

Sega chief creative officer Toshihiro Nagoshi (also general director of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and the creator of the Yakuza franchise) offered his high praise of the game; stating “It’s the kind of work made by non-Japanese people that makes you feel they’re even more Japanese than us. I think it’s amazing.”

Ghost of Tsushima is available for PlayStation 4, and backwards compatible on PlayStation 5. In case you missed it, you can find our review here.
