HBO's The Last of Us has started filming, and it's starting with the game's infamously sad opening scenes.
Gabriel Luna, the actor playing Tommy Miller, posted a picture on his Instagram, showing the Miller family all together for the first time and sat in a car.

In his post, Gabriel says, "Already love these folks", whilst giving our first look at Pedro Pascal as Joel, Nico Parker as Sarah and the first look at Gabriel as Tommy. Also featured in the picture are cinematographer Ksenia Sereda and pilot director Kantemir Balagov.
The wide smiles of the whole cast are ironic, as it's pretty clear that the scene that's being shot is the opening scene from The Last of Us, which is widely regarded as one of the saddest in recent gaming memory. This seems to confirm that the pilot episode of the show will be the game's opening scenes, which is backed up by the presence of Kantemir Balagov, the pilot director.
Beyond the fact that all of the Millers are here in the shot, the fact that they're all sat in a car is the biggest hint as to when this scene might take place. With Tommy at the wheel and Sarah in the back, it's likely the scene where the family is driving into the town and realising the state of the world for the first time. Whether we'll see the true first moments with Sarah in the house isn't clear yet, but it would make sense to start there rather than in the car.
Gabriel's post is the first confirmation of the show having started production, as nothing official had yet been announced. It's especially interesting considering it was just a few days ago when we found out that Nico Parker would be joining the cast as Sarah Miller.
That announcement happening so recently had some convinced that we wouldn't be seeing news on HBO's The Last of Us for some time, but it looks like Nico Parker's role was announced ahead of time because production was just about to start on the pilot.
