In addition to small changes to the gameplay, this new version adds a story expansion taking place on Iki Island. If you are wondering how much time to set aside for the expansion and how long it takes to do everything on the new map, the following guide will help.
How To Unlock Iki Island
- Owners of Ghost Of Tsushima must pay $19.99 or $29.99 for the PS4 and PS5 upgrade, respectively
- The bundle costs $59.99 on PS4 and $69.99 on PS5
First and foremost, you don't automatically unlock Iki Island by simply owning the original game. You have to upgrade to the director's cut on either the PS4 and PS5. If you own the original game already, it costs $19.99 to upgrade it on PS4 and $29.99 to upgrade it on PS5.

Upgrading from the PS4 director's cut to the PS5 version later on will cost $9.99. If you are buying the game in any form for the first time, it is $59.99 on the PS4 and $69.99 on PS5. Once you have the game, you need to reach the second act of the main game in order to activate the expansion through a quest in the world.
How Long Is The Iki Island Expansion?
- The story alone takes about three hours
- adding some side quests into the mix takes about seven hours
- Completing everything 100 percent takes around ten hours
Your playtime in the new world varies greatly depending on how much of a completionist you are. This is an open-world game, after all, and the expansion includes numerous side quests and collectibles. If you are just rushing through the nine story missions and ignoring the side quests entirely, it should only take about three or four hours to complete the expansions. Clearing out everything on the map takes about ten hours. Balancing the two gives you about seven hours of gameplay.
While this sounds relatively small for an expansion that costs anywhere between $20 and $30, also remember that you unlock new skills and techniques that you can then bring back to the main game. Additionally, Iki Island is visually distinct from the Island of Tsushima and it is simply a well-made expansion.
