How To Play Multiplayer In Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin

While it's great to be exploring the world of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin with your monstie partner and Battle Buddies, it's also nice to share in the fun with others and fortunately, the game offers local co-op and multiplayer.

You have to progress the story to a certain point before you are able to take part in multiplayer content, after which you can play the multiplayer modes by accessing them from the Quest Board menu. Multiplayer is another great way to earn some Bottle Caps too. We've got everything you need to know about the different modes right here.

Co-op Quests

Co-Op Quests has three different types of quests to choose from:

  • Slay Quests: where you have to eliminate a set target in an area.
  • Trial Quests: where you defeat the targets in the arena in as few turns as possible.
  • Expeditions: feature multiple nests in one area for maximum egg snatching.

You'll need an Expedition Ticket to create a Co-Op Expedition Quest Room, however, you do not need a ticket to join someone else's Expedition room. Tickets can be purchased from Melynx Inc. in exchange for Bottle Caps, or can sometimes be found in treasure chests you find in Co-Op Quests. Using rare tickets to create the quest room guarantees rarer eggs in the quest.

You can only take three monsties with you during quests, so make sure you adjust your party before heading out in multiplayer. Both players get rewards for completing Co-Op quests regardless of whether only one of you actually fulfills the objective, so you can both explore the area separately if you want to, rather than taking down the same monsters.

If you do want to battle whatever your multiplayer buddy is fighting, you have to enter the battle effect ring around the monster they are battling to join in. You cannot heal your teammate unless you are in the same battle as them.

Versus Battles

Versus Battles pit you against other players in battle, or you can team up and battle in a pair against other players. Once you choose this mode, you will see a list of battle rooms that you can join or you can choose to create your own battle room. Versus Battles follow the same rules as Rider Battles in that you cannot target the enemy players, only their monsties. The first team/player to lose three hearts will lose.

Multiplayer or Local Co-Op

When you choose the Multiplayer menu from the Quest Board, you will be prompted to choose between Online Play or Local Play.

In Online Play, you can choose to matchmake online with others or only play with friends when selecting Co-Op Quests or Versus Battles, or alternatively, you can use the Match ID Search function to find a particular session. With Local Play, you can choose between Co-Op Quests or Versus Battles without any of the filters of friends or Match IDs.

You can communicate with other players by using Sticker Chat. At the end of your quest/battle, you can swap Rider Cards with the other player.

You can edit your Rider Card, select Stickers, and change your monsties and equipment from the Multiplayer Setup menu from the Quest Board. Next: Monster Hunter Stories 2 Complete Guide And Walkthrough
