Jurassic World Evolution 2 Will Improve Dinosaur Behaviour

The original Jurassic Park movie made a younger me believe that velociraptors learning to open doors and communicate would be a way bigger problem in my life than it actually is. While I’d rather not be fearfully hiding in a pantry, hunted by the ancestors of a chicken, the developers of Jurassic World Evolution 2 want just that. In a developer diary video, Frontier Developments has shared the upgrades made to dinosaur behaviour, habitats, and deeper management.

The team’s first developer diary starts off by listing the various game modes coming to Jurassic World Evolution 2. The campaign mode is an original story that follows the events of the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom movie, featuring iconic characters voiced by Bryce Dallas Howard and Jeff Goldblum.

The Chaos Theory mode puts players into various “what if” scenarios from the movies, tasking them to work it out. The Sandbox mode will let you unleash your creativity, and the Challenge mode will keep you on your toes. The game will also be expanding on the tropical setting of the previous game and the original movies to offer up various types of environments, each with their own weather systems and challenges.

Dinosaur behaviour has also been tweaked, making them interact with the environment and other dinosaurs in unique ways. “We’ve been working really hard on improving the hunting and fighting systems so they’re more dynamic,” said game director Rich Newbold. “We have group attacks now so packs of velociraptors will attack their prey. We’ve also been adding more depth to their social and environmental behaviours so they’ll now interact with the world around them in a more authentic way.”

Scientists are responsible for creating the perfect dinosaur. They will manipulate the DNA of the dinosaurs to increase or decrease the chances of traits appearing, like being resilient to diseases. However, if you overwork the scientists, they will sabotage your park; let’s not forget, that’s how this whole mess began in the first place.

Dinosaurs will also choose their own territory based on the various things in the enclosure that they may need. Multiple dinosaurs can exist in the same territory, but sometimes there will be a fight to see who can keep it.

Deeper management systems will also allow players to control every aspect of their park. Various architecture styles can be chosen for buildings, enclosures can be made to look how you want, and even the dinosaurs can be customised.
