Following the news that Sony is shutting down the PlayStation Store on PS3, PSP, and PS Vita forever, Microsoft announced they’re adding backwards compatibility support for their Xbox Cloud Gaming suite. Furthermore, the company took a jab at Sony, saying it’s more important than ever to preserve gaming classics.
The Xbox brand account responded to a fan talking up the new backwards compatibility feature for their Xbox Cloud Gaming suite, saying “as time goes on, it becomes more important than ever that we ensure gaming icons and classics are preserved for new and old players alike.”
They added, “Whether your first time playing Morrowind is from 2002 on your Xbox or 2021 on your phone, we’re excited to share these experiences with you!”
Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming suite comes as part of their Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which for $15 a month gets you access to their online suite as well as a catalog of over 100 titles that you can play at no extra cost.
Microsoft has been trying to add more value to their Xbox platform in other ways, like making Xbox Party Chat free to all users and dropping the Xbox Live subscription requirement to play free-to-play multiplayer titles.
