Anvils are a great tool in Minecraft for any player. You'll be able to name any item and repair your tools by combining old tools or adding new materials to a single worn tool. It's especially important once you begin to enchant your items and don't want them to break on you! Plus, enchanted items are often especially worthy of a name — whether you're the kind of person to name a sword "Excalibur" or "Daryl."

Crafting An Anvil
Anvils only require one ingredient: iron.
To obtain Iron Ore, you'll need to do a lot of mining. It's more commonly found the deeper you are (with differing stats depending on the version of Minecraft that you're running) but you can also get lucky and find it on the surface!
Look for stone that looks a little like coal but with beige splotches instead of black.
Once you have Iron Ore blocks, put them in a furnace with any kind of fuel to create Iron Ingots. You'll need 31 ingots total!
Next, set four of the ingots aside. You'll turn the rest into Blocks of Iron by filling a crafting bench with 9 Iron Ingots. Make 3 Blocks of Iron.
Now, you're finally ready to build your anvil.
In a 3×3 space, place all 3 Blocks of Iron horizontally in the top row, then put 3 Iron Ingots horizontally on the bottom row, and then your last Iron Ingot in the very centre.
Congratulations! You've built your very first anvil.
Finding An Anvil
It's pretty unlikely that you'll find an anvil in the world. Even if you did, it wouldn't be a good one.
The only place they might appear naturally is a Woodland Mansion. A Damaged Anvil (which still functions but breaks quickly) will generate in its "Forge Room."
As a result, it's not really worth hunting down one of these structures in order to get the anvil — you'd may as well just make one yourself.
