While many fans were tuning in to the Call of Duty League Championships, they got to see more than just the competitive teams going head to head. During the games, the livestream was “hacked” to bring fans a little more information on the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Since the big reveal from Activision a few days ago, fans of the franchise have been excited to see more about Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War which is set to release later this year. The company has already revealed a lot of interesting details about the game, and it seems that it would like to keep the hype going around by releasing another teaser.

The video showed off a hooded figure, who addressed viewers in an electronically altered voice. This figure brought up the topic of heroes, pointing out that every side has them. Fans cheer these heroes on as they train and fight for the side that they’ve sworn an oath to. However, the figure brings up an interesting question: what happens if the loyalty that these individuals have sworn to a side is betrayed.

The figure went on to question what the viewer would do if they found out everything they knew was a lie. The figure continues to ask similar questions, framing the reality as “just a game of lies, cover-ups, and disinformation” that every side has, claiming that “we are all pawns.” At the end of the video, the figure asks Call of Duty fans to join him so that they can see the truth.

After the video interrupted the Call of Duty League Championships, a website also came back online, called “Pawn Takes Pawn.” If one goes to the website, selects the computer monitor on the screen, and types “zork” into the text box, the user will be taken to a text-based game called Zork, referencing the hidden game previously found in the series. It doesn’t seem to recognize many words, but fans are hard at work trying to crack the code of the story to see what Activision and the hooded figure are leaving them to find.

The lead up to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been filled with cryptic puzzles like this latest edition as well as the crates that were shipped out to various Twitch streamers and other content creators. While the Zork game is leaving fans puzzled, it likely won’t take long for the Call of Duty community to crack the code.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches November 13 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
