No, Boba Fett’s Ship Probably Isn’t Being Renamed Firespray

Following the announcement of a new Star Wars comic, some believe that Boba Fett's ship is going to be renamed Firespray, instead of Slave-1. That's not the case, or at least it's not quite as simple as that.

The comic in question is called Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters, and it focuses on characters like Boba Fett, Bossk, and Dengar. Each character seems like they're going to get a front cover variation, which has them with their ship. For example, the comics highlight IG-88 and IG-2000, as well as Bossk and The Hound's Tooth.

Next to Boba Fett's name in the lineup is "Firespray", which some have taken to mean that the ship is being renamed to Firespray from Slave-1, following some minor controversy earlier in the year, where Lego simply refused to use the name due to its slaving connotations. Even though the comic says "Boba Fett and Firespray", it's incredibly unlikely that is its new name, or at least it shouldn't be.

The reason for this is because Firespray is actually its model classification, Firespray-31 class patrol and attack craft to be exact. This isn't a new revelation or anything either, it's simply always been a Firespray model canonically. Renaming it to the Firespray would be like calling the Millenium Falcon the YT-1300f light freighter, it just doesn't make sense in the context of the universe.

Although logic dictates that Firespray would be a silly name for the ship, it's possible that Disney simply wants to rebrand it that for simplicity's sake. It's also possible that it simply doesn't want to name the ship at all, and will just refer to it by its classification, although that also has some holes in it as they're missing the rest of the name. It could also just be a fault on the part of the comic, but we'll have to see.

As of right now, Disney hasn't announced any kind of name change for the ship and hasn't responded to the rumours of it being renamed Firespray, but as we've said above, it simply doesn't make any sense for a new name.
