If you’ve been looking for something to do with your phone that doesn’t involve stressful social media interactions or adorable cat videos, Niantic has you covered. The makers of mobile sensation Pokémon GO, Niantic has developed an all new AR-powered game to enjoy, this time based on Nintendo’s Pikmin series. Welcome to Pikmin Bloom, which you can learn all about in this overview trailer:
The loop of Pikmin Bloom seems straight forward enough: grow Pikmin by walking, have the Pikmin join you as you walk around, and then plant more seeds to grow additional Pikmin pals. Here’s how Niantic puts it:
- Walk to grow more Pikmin: Pikmin grow from seedlings with every step you take. The more you walk, the more Pikmin will join your squad!
- Walk to make flowers bloom: Collect flower petals from your Pikmin’s heads and plant them as you walk to leave trails of beautiful blossoming flowers everywhere you go.
- Walk to log your memories: Wind down at the end of the day by reviewing your journey. You can see your step count and the path you walked, and revisit the pictures you took throughout the day.
Things seem a fair bit more laid back compared to the gameplay in Pokémon GO, with players taking a rather lackadaisical approach to growing their collection of Pikmin.
