Frontier Developments, the developers of Planet Coaster Console Edition, have confirmed in a recent developer diary that Planet Coaster supports a free next-gen upgrade. It will support a free next-gen upgrade on both PlayStation and Xbox. Basically, if you buy Planet Coaster on PlayStation 4, you won’t be charged for a PlayStation 5 upgraded port, and if you buy Planet Coaster on Xbox One, you won’t be charged for an Xbox Series S|X upgrade. It’s great to see more developers doing this. It’s very pro-consumer
They also confirmed that people who purchase a physical copy of Planet Coaster: Console Edition will also download the optimized version without paying for an upgrade. They can just insert the disc into their next-gen console and download the update.
Build and manage your way to coaster-creating fame! Deep physics-based systems mean you’re in for the ride of your life, so dream big and build even bigger as you create your coaster park empire.
Please note, next-gen upgrades are not available for physical versions of the game if players have upgraded to PlayStation®5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series S.
Planet Coaster: Console Edition is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in Holiday 2020.
Hopefully, more developers will take a similar approach for free upgrades since it will benefit the consumers a lot, and they won’t have to pay for the same game twice.
