After an intense month of campaigning and a weekend of voting, Porygon ran away with the rights to the upcoming September Community Day event. Charmander was the runner up and will take the spotlight when October’s event arrives, but for now Pokemon GO trainers should be preparing for an exciting September day full of Porygon spawns and a new shiny to add to their growing collections.
The core concept of Pokemon GO Community Day is pretty simple: Go out (or possibly stay-in and use incense…) and catch a ton of pokemon for three hours, but this time around things are different. For Pokemon GO players who need a little more direction than that, we’ve put together a comprehensive guide full of all the intel you need for the big day.

The normal-type badge is likely one that every single player has already acquired, so that one be much of a motivation to stay engaged in this particular event. That said, the powerful Porygon evolutions and the chance for a new and exciting shiny should be all the motivation players need to get out, burn some incense, and enjoy the September event when it arrives.
Porygon – Gen 1 Normal-type with powerful, meta-relevant evolution form

11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time (awaiting confirmation)
Starting in February 2019, Community Day events now always take place on local time, no matter where you are playing. That changes a bit over the winter months as the time is split between hemispheres rather than time zones. It looks like we’re back to one time at this point though.
Evolve Porygon2 (the evolved form of Porygon) to get Porygon-Z that know the Normal-type attack Tri Attack. This attack will be new to Pokémon GO and, when used, will have a chance of decreasing the opposing Pokémon’s Attack and Defense.
Make sure to evolve during the active time window (within an hour of the event ending) if you want to secure it.

The primary bonus for this event has not been confirmed yet. This news will likely arrive within the next few weeks.
Incense activated during the event will last for three hours.
Porygon will be appearing more frequently in the wild. If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny Porygon.

Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!
At this point, a $1 entry free ticketed Special Research has not been announced yet, but these have become a trend with recent Community Day events. It seems very likely that one will be available in September, as well.
Recent updates to the game’s code suggest that this Community Day, like last month’s, will temporarily offer special Field Research tasks that put an emphasis on the featured Pokemon. Be sure to claim your rewards and clear out a space for these quests if you want to see them.
Niantic usually doesn’t confirm the shiny chance until after the event has started, but keep an eye out for shiny Porygon while hunting. They’ve been a part of every other Community Day event, so we fully expect to see them this month, as well.
That’s everything we know at this point! Porygon is a very popular Pokemon (and an even more popular shiny) and is likely to give trainers a good reason to take a break the usual daily activities and dive head first into some event tasks. Once the new event arrives in September, the festivities should give trainers a good reason to continue catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game and getting closer to that complete Pokedex. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
